Transportation in Oklahoma is controlled by a network of airports, inland ports, interstate highways, rail lines between cities and mass transit networks. The state is located along the U.S. interstate highway system and contains three interstate highways along with four secondary interstates. The three interstates are 3, 40 and 44. Oklahoma has over 12,000 miles of roadways that include state-managed roads, turnpikes and a long section of Route 66. Will Rogers Airport, in Oklahoma City, is the state’s largest airport, and Tulsa International Airport is the second. The state has a total of 150 public airports. Oklahoma has two inland ports on rivers. They are the Port of Muskogee as well as the Tulsa Port of Catoosa. This is the only port that handles international cargo within the state. It is the farthest inland ocean-going port in the country and handles two million tons of cargo every year. Both of the ports are situated on the system of McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River. It links river barge traffic from Muskogee and Tulsa with the Mississippi River by way of the Arkansas and Verdigris Rivers.
